About Austin

Well, it’s the capital of Texas, obviously. So there’s a domed State Capitol building at our core, surrounded by some mansions, pretty green lawns and a world famous entertainment district.

Outside of that, there are many things in Austin that make you wonder if you’re really in Texas: rolling hills, pristine lakes and rivers, and plenty of local characters.

Austin is collegiate, with four major universities nearby including the University of Texas, Texas State University, St. Edwards University and Southwestern University in Georgetown.

It’s also artsy and always has been, a sleepy college town turned world creative power! It’s home to plenty of celebrities, artists, filmmakers and musicians. In fact, they call Austin the Live Music Capitol of the World, hosting several annual music festivals such as the famous SXSW Music Festival and Austin City Limits Music Festival, among others.

Although another city slogan is “Keep Austin Weird”, we have our grown-up side too. Austin is home to Fortune 500 companies Dell and Whole Foods Market and other major employers include AMD, Samsung, IBM, 3M, Freescale Semi-Conductor, National Instruments, Applied Materials, Intel, GSD & M, the University of Texas, the State of Texas and many other creative firms and start-ups.

And Austin recently ended up on the top of Kiplinger’s list of the “Top 10 Cities for the Next Decade”. How’s that for fancy?
